JUNIUS headlining Canadian fest w/MARE (reunion) + US tour/fests w/IREPRESS + new album news

junius

"The best soundtrack for reveling in the melancholy of actually living since My Bloody Valentine's Loveless." – ALTERNATIVE PRESS

The tireless and ever-touring bearded men of JUNIUS are preparing to headline the upcoming Rock The Coliseum music festival in Toronto this month, along with the newly (and perhaps only temporarily) reunited MARE (Hydrahead Rec), BURNING BRIDES, MMDDYYYY, BAD FLIRT, and many more... (http://www.cre8iv80studio.com/RTC for more info)

They'll also be making some festival appearances below the Mason-Dixon with fellow Bostonites IREPRESS (Translation Loss Rec), co-headlining the Summer Sideshow Fest in Columbus, GA (with HOT ROD CIRCUIT, XO, and others) and the Rotting Plum Fest in Johnson City, TN (with US CHRISTMAS, OCOAI, and others), as well as shows in NYC, Philly, Richmond and other whistle stops along the East Coast. Following some more North American touring later this summer, they'll be heading back across the pond for their third headlining European tour in October.

This is all in anticipation of their upcoming album—already being referred to as the "Chinese Democracy" of Art Rock—which will finally be released this September, most likely via The Mylene Sheath (domestically), and Make My Day Records (Europe). The concept album, titled ‘The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist,’ is inspired by the life and theories of controversial scholar Immanuel Velikovsky (Wikipedia the guy if you're unfamiliar). In an admirable subjugation of the crumbling major label infrastructure, JUNIUS recorded ‘Martyrdom’ at the legendary former A&M Records studios in LA over the course of a year, somewhat guerilla-style, during the off-hours that the studio wasn't booked (the band has joked that they were bumped out by everyone from Akon to Bruce Springsteen—literally).

ADAI Update

ADAI

"Adai's songs are deliberate and expansive... Mournful melodies abound... build[ing] to heart-pounding peaks. Kurt Ballou's meaty production and Seldon Hunt's eye-popping artwork round out the package." - DECIBEL

From ADAI drummer Justin Trujillo:

- First off, the middle of June we will be heading out to Tolono, IL to record with Matt Talbott [singer/guitarist of HUM]. He did Hopesfalls 'satellite years' and the Back When album 'we sang as ghosts' among a ton of other stuff that he doesn't really have listed on his site. We're tracking about three or four songs roughly and we're doing it 100% analog for a vinyl exclusive release. It's not a full length, it's not an ep, it'll be bigger than a 7 inch, we're not quite sure yet how you want to word it. We want to do something special with it. We'll be there for about 4 days. We are definitely looking for help to release this. Here is the website for his studio:

http://www.gwrecordrecorders.com/index.php

- Secondly, in late July / beginning of August we're doing a two week tour with North [www.myspace.com/north] We just started booking it so not much is confirmed yet but here is what we have so far:

07.24 • Amarillo, TX @ The 10th St. Deli w/ CTTTOAFF
07.25 • San Antonio, TX @ TBA w/ CTTTOAFF

w/ NORTH:
07.26 • Austin, TX @ Red 7
07.27 • Henryetta, OK @ The Mosh Hall
07.28 • Wichita, KS
07.29 • Kansas City, MO
07.30 • Columbia, MO @ Cafe Berlin
07.31 • Chicago, IL @ White Star Sports Bar
08.01 • Toledo, OH @ Frankies Inner City
08.02 • Detroit, MI @ Floyd's
08.03 • Steven's Point, WI
08.04 • Minneapolis, MN @ TBA
08.05 • Fargo, ND @ TBA
08.06 • Minot, ND
08.07 • Williston, ND
08.08 • Rapid City, SD @ TBA
08.09 • Denver, CO @ TBA

If anyone wants to help out with a show, contact: iheartadai@gmail.com

- Lastly, we've solidified a contract with a label based out of the UK called Sound Devastation Records [http://www.sounddevastation.co.uk/] about pressing '...I Carry.' for Europe. They are planning to put this out on a gatefold 10” with the right side of the gatefold housing the 10” and with the left side housing a die-cut with a cd version of the ep. Much like Torche's 'In Return' if you've seen it.

Vilipend - Debut EP 'Love Left to Rot...' Out Now; Tour Announced

vilipend

“Vicious Toronto quartet Vilipend have pulled off recreating their sonic might on their Love Left To Rot... debut EP. The stunning release's five songs are the culmination of Neurosis' ungainly presence, Kittens' blind rage and Today Is The Day's complexity.” - CHART ATTACK

VILIPEND, from Toronto, Canada, recently self-released their debut EP, ‘Love Left to Rot…’ The EP is available on CD for a mere ten bucks from the band directly. They’re gearing up for a short Canadian tour with Lords, Titan, and Barn Burner in support of the release. Those dates and more information, including a message from vocalist Chris Gramlich, are available below.

“Greetings and Salutations!

I'm not going to fib to you; I'm no good at this. You'd think being a writer/editor would mean I could draft a press release but seeing a million a year just makes everything seem so cliche. Obviously every band believe they are amazing and doing something special, but most aren't and then you feel bad for them when their record/live show/music, well, isn't that great, so I don't want to add to the hyperbole pile. I know how busy you are.

I'm not going to tell you how great the band I'm in, Vilipend, is or how passionate we are or how we're going to save music or anything ridiculous like that. I'm simply going to tell you that Vilipend are a metal/hardcore/whatever band from Toronto, Ontario, Canada that are playing the bulk of Lords' Canadian tour in June, and that we've just self-released a five-song CD entitled Love Left To Rot... (which was recorded with renowned Canadian producer Greg Dawson: Mare, the End, .moneen., plus tons more). We've been compared to the likes of Botch, Converge, Deadguy and Today is the Day, but you know how it goes: everyone hears something different in your music, and all those bands are legendary, so that might just raise expectations a bit too much when we don't sound like any one of them but some sort of weird mixture thereof. If you are interested in checking out Love Left To Rot... there's a link below. Any review consideration or interest whatsoever is much appreciated. Much thanks for your time.

- Chris Gramlich, VILIPEND”

VILIPEND Canadian dates with LORDS, TITAN and BARN BURNER:

Wednesday June 10/09 – Hamilton, ON @ Casbah
Thursday June 11/09 – Toronto, ON @ Sneaky Dee's
Friday June 12/09 – Ottawa, ON @ Cafe Dekeuf
Saturday June 13/09 – Montreal, QC @ Katacombes
Tuesday June 16/09 – London, ON @ Call The Office
Wednesday June 17/09 – St. Catharines, ON @ 73
Friday June 19/09 – Guelph, ON @ Shadow
Saturday June 20/09 – Mississauga, ON @ City Center / Coliseum Stage

Some Vilipend fun facts:

-Hi-res ‘Love Left to Rot…’ art by Matt Daley, most known for his work with Coalesce: http://www.javelinpr.com/images/ViliRot_1.jpg

-Quick EPK/music video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xPPuFOVgNs

-Have shared stages with the likes of Today is the Day, Trap Them, Psyopus and Cursed

-First release was the five-song, live-off-the-floor ‘The Northern Hostility Sessions...’ CD

-Second release is the current ‘Love Left To Rot...’ five-song CD, professionally recorded in Aug '08 with Greg Dawson @ BWC Studios (Mare, the End, .moneen., Starring Janet Leigh)

-Have had two blackouts at shows over the course of their existence, one even made the news.

-A pregnant woman lost her mucus plug at Vilipend's very first show (true story and kind of gross)

-Vilipend are currently single (i.e., unsigned) but put out releases regardless because that's what Black Flag would do

-The Reverend Steve Austin hugged Vilipend screamer Chris Gramlich after they opened for TITD in Toronto and was told by the Reverend that Vilipend are "awesome." The Reverend needed a shower.

JUNIUS

NORTH AMERICAN TOUR STARTS TONIGHT IN BOSTON, MA

FIRST SONG FROM NEW ALBUM NOW AVAILABLE AS SPECIAL SCREEN PRINT + MP3 SINGLE

JUNIUS have just released a song from their new album as a limited edition hand-screened print with an accompanying digital download, available exclusively from the band's MySpace page (myspace.com/junius). The song, "Stargazers & Gravediggers," is the first single from the upcoming album, The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist. The album is inspired by the life and theories of controversial scholar Immanuel Velikovsky and will be released this summer. The band had this to say about the song release:

"We wanted to offer a unique piece of art to go with the music, instead of simply offering a digital download. So, long after your iPod dies, you'll still have something tangible to look at and hold on to." - Michael Repasch-Nieves (JUNIUS guitarist and artist of the Stargazers prints)

JUNIUS to debut brand new song on LA's Indie 103.1 and MySpace tonight

Junius

Boston's Post Wave pioneers JUNIUS will be debuting a brand new song, "Stargazers & Gravediggers," on Los Angeles radio station Indie 103.1 tonight between 7 and 8pm PST. The track's release is intended as a sneak preview of JUNIUS' forthcoming full-length The Martyrdom of a Catastrophist, to be released early next year.

The much-anticipated album, inspired by the life and theories of controversial scholar Immanuel Velikovsky, was recorded by Tom Syrowski and Kevin Mills (Weezer, AFI, Incubus) at the legendary Henson Recording Studios in Hollywood.

"While our roots and homes are still very much back east, it seems appropriate to release the first taste of this new album in Los Angeles, where we've spent most of the last year and a half working on it," said guitarist Mike Repasch-Nieves. The band has yet to announce who will be releasing the new album, and is still in talks with potential labels while getting ready to embark on its second European tour this year, scheduled for October 30th - November 22nd.

For anyone outside of the greater LA area, Indie 103.1 can be heard live online via their website. The song will also be streaming on JUNIUS' MySpace page after 8pm PST.

Praise for JUNIUS' current self-titled album, available now from Radar Recordings / SAF Records:

ADAI BIO:

Adai is a textbook example of how to do it right in today's tumultuous music biz. The two friends that comprise the band are hard-working, diligent, focused and, above all, they play a compelling, passionate blend of post-rock and metal.

"[The band] originally was actually a four piece; two guitars, a bass, and a drummer. [O]ne of our guitarists and our bassist decided to leave," drummer Justin Trujillo explains. "At the time we had some of our biggest shows lined up and [guitarist/vocalist Devin Mendoza and I] decided not to cancel them and instead see if we could make the two piece thing work. [W]e got a tremendous amount of positive feedback and decided to just stick with it."

That relentless attitude is this Denver duo's M.O. For their debut EP, ...I Carry, surely they could have found a suitable studio in their native Colorado. But no, Trujillo and Mendoza weren't going to settle for anything less than perfect, so they drove their van all the way to Massachusetts to record with one of metal's most in-demand producers, Kurt Ballou (Converge, Cave In, Genghis Tron).

Since recording and self-releasing ...I Carry in 2006-7, Adai has been hitting the road hard, touring with future labelmates Caspian, Junius, and Constants, among others. During that time, the band developed a relationship with Radar Recordings, who will be re-releasing ...I Carry later this year. "We love everyone involved with [Radar] and they're easily some of the hardest working people we've met in this industry," Trujillo says.

One gets the sense that Trujillo and Mendoza are perfectionists. From working with Kurt Ballou, to tracking down Seldon Hunt (Isis) to design the sleeve for ...I Carry, to choosing to continue as a duo-- on their own terms-- when bands with lesser mettle would have thrown in the towel prematurely; Trujillo and Mendoza clearly love what they do.

"Music for us is an emotional expression and it takes a lot for us to be satisfied with what we're doing," Trujillo explains. "That in itself has been the biggest struggle over the years we've been doing this but we couldn't be happier with the results we've got so far."
